comfort in an historic atmosphere

Situated opposite the glorious grounds of the award winning Imperial War Museum, Captain Bligh House B&B is one of London’s most historic houses, a stunning Georgian home where Captain William Bligh, of ‘Mutiny on the Bounty’ fame, lived after his return from that ill fated voyage.

Captain Bligh House was built in the 1780s as part of a new terrace of town houses on Durham Place later renamed Lambeth Road. The house suffered bomb damage during the second world war, but was lovingly restored, leaving the flooring with a quirky “ship at sea” feeling.

We have five self contained self-catering B&B accommodations,  The Crow’s Nest, The Film Studio, The London Rooms, The Captain’s Cabin and The Royal Suite, each with their own unique charm and appeal. We also provide a good supply of breakfast provisions to get you started so you don't have to go shopping as soon as you arrive.

Bligh House B&B is in a fun and safe area, close to the wonderfully vibrant South Bank complex with its exciting restaurants, theatres and street entertainers. A 10 minute walk to the London Eye, 20 minutes to Covent Garden and only a walk, or with our excellent transport facilities, an 8 minute bus ride to Piccadilly and London’s famous West End theatreland.

Your hosts, Gayna and Simon, come from theatrical and musical backgrounds. Enthusiastic and mad about London they will take great joy in boring you with everything that London has to offer!

Lambeth Palace, the Houses of Parliament, a trip down river to Historic Greenwich,  the Tate and National Galleries,  the Royal Festival Hall or National Theatre –  all within easy reach of our B&B.

Tripadvisor Review

"We were looking for a special accommodation for our teenage granddaughter’s first London visit, and we found it. Captain Bligh House is a tiny vintage jewel of a house. We stayed in the Crow’s Nest, the Film Studio and the Captain’s Cabin and loved them all. This particular trip, which was far from our first, will become the measure against which all other London experiences will be measured, in no small part due to our accommodations and wonderful hosts. We’ll never again stay anywhere else."
